He will give you the desires of your heart

Many Christians love to receive the promise and blessings from God. Unfortunately some Christians sometime think unless they do something ‘good’ for God, they are not qualified to receive any reward from Him. They believe that God will bless them with their basic needs. However they are unsure if God is willing to give things they desire if they have not done what God wants them to do.

This was me back in my 20s. I used to think that I was never good enough for Him so I didn't dare to expect something great unless I make Him pleased first. However I found a verse that really blessed me.

Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart – Psalm 37:4 (NIV)

The other translation explains well about this verse.

Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life,
and he will provide for you what you desire the most  - (TPT)

This verse just simply tells us to be joyful to have Him in our lives, enjoying Him as our saviour, our God, and our Friend. He wants us to enjoy companion with Him and share our lives with Him. How beautiful is that? God is longing to be close to us. Then He will give us the desires of our heart.

I would like to share a testimony. Back in 2018, we were looking to buy our second car. In the process of searching, my husband and I agreed that we want a 7-seater car. Unfortunately to buy this car, we have to lower our expectations. My Husband always wanted to buy a brand new car. However with our budget, we were unable to buy a brand new car. So we decided to go to a second hand car dealer and checked which brand and which year we could get within our budget. So after we checked, what we could get was a Mitsubishi Outlander around 3-4 years old. We were happy with that option.

Just 2 days before we planned to visit the second hand car dealer, I checked on the website if I could find the same specification on the other online car sales which could give us a better deal. I found there was a Mitsubishi Dealer that offer the same price as our budget for their Ex-Demo car. This Ex-Demo car is range from 400-5000 km and normally only 1 year old.

I spoke to my husband if he was interested in this type of car. We then agreed on this and I contacted the sales person. The sales person asked me to give deposit of $500 over the phone if I want to secure the car. I took a risk to pay $500 without even seeing the car first because he said it was a refundable if we didn’t like it.

On Saturday we went to the dealer and couldn’t wait to see our car. However the sales person said that the car was not in the showroom. We both felt that we have been fooled by them. I said to him we cannot pay the car unless I see the condition of the car first. He said, it is brand new, there is nothing to inspect. But we said, it is an Ex-Demo, so we still need to see the car.

Then to our surprise, the sales person explained that this is actually a brand new car. The seats were still wrapped in the plastics and had got only 11 km. We were puzzled and confused why the price was so low. Cut the long story short they are trying to get rid of their stocks and need to sell them in much lower price. For that price they had to put on the advertising as an Ex-Demo car. There was around 8 cars for sale under this price and we were the last one who paid the deposit.

We then decided to take the car and we couldn’t thank God enough for His goodness.

Few months before we were looking for a car, I prayed for God to help us to find the good family car. We have limited budget with bigger desire. We could have settled with a small 5-seater car as long as it helps us to move around. But my heart desire was to have a 7-seater car so we can fit our parents if we need to travel with them. My husband also shared his heart desire was always to have a brand new car. However looking at our finance, he didn’t dare to look for a brand new car. But God is so good. He knows what our heart desire were and gave what we really wanted.

Therefore don’t be discourage if you desire something great. Bring it to God. If He thinks you are qualified to have it, He will grant it to you. The qualification does not depend on what you have done or you have not done for Him. But just simply to make Him the pleasure of your life.

I hope our testimony brings blessing to you.
