Integrity Matters

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. - Galatians 6:7-8

People have a lot of decisions to make in their daily life. As Christians we are tempted to make ‘bad’ decisions almost every time. Maybe we are familiar with the following excuses:

  • If most people do it, why can’t I?
  • This is how people run the business, it is almost impossible to do ‘Godly business’ in this era
  • I will never win the ‘competition’ if I am too honest.
  • People don’t see anyway, why would I waste my time doing this?

I have an experience that I would like to share with you which I take as one of an important lessons in life.

This happened when I was in my 20s. At that time I went to visit my friend. I parked my car in my friend’s driveway. When I was about to leave her house, I had to reverse my car. I didn’t know there was a car behind me parked on the road. So I hit the car. The neighbourhood was very quiet and no one was watching. Instead of leaving a note for the owner to call me and be responsible to it, I quickly ran away. Sadly, I didn’t feel guilty despite I was already a Christian.

On the next day (yes exactly on the next day), I went shopping. After I came back to my parking lot, I saw the side door of my car was dent. Somebody hit my car and ran away.

Even though it was only a small matter, I learnt an important lesson, our Integrity matters. We have to keep doing what is right even when no one is watching us. Because we will reap what we sow.

Fast forward a few years later back in 2017, I drove to the local supermarket with my 2 children. As I entered the parking lot, I accidentally hit the car next to me. It was a quiet area as well where no one was watching. I had a choice to run away again but I learnt my lesson. I grabbed a piece of paper, then I wrote a note to the owner of the car, leaving my phone number and placed it onto the windscreen. She then called me and we settled the matter. I had to pay $700 for the excess from the insurance to fix both cars. But I felt good because I was doing the right thing. The Lady said to me “Thank you, that’s very nice of you to leave a note to me.”

Fast forward again to March 2020. I worked at School Canteen. I parked my car in a school parking lot. After I finished my work, I went to my car and was surprise to see a dent on the front of my car. Then I found a note on my windscreen. Somebody left a note saying sorry for hitting my car and left his number for me to contact him. I have contacted him and we have resolved the matter.

I am amazed how God is showing me that His word is very true. When I sow something bad, I quickly reap the consequences. But He also wants to tell me don’t get weary to keep doing the right thing. We might not see the result immediately, but someday, He will show it to us. And when that happened, I am so thankful that He is a faithful God.

Your integrity Matters! Don’t be weary to do good things for God.

I hope this will bring blessing to you.
