Receiving Spiritual Gift - How Bad Do You Want It?

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

The word of God said that each of us have our own spiritual gifts. These gifts were given to us for the Kingdom’s work. We all know that we do not have to have the same gifts with our friends and family. Each of them is equally important with the others. So there is no gift that is greater than the other and we should not be jealous to each other.

Now, some of you perhaps wonder what spiritual gifts that our Father has given you. You may have prayed about it and has not received any answered yet. I would like to encourage you to keep praying and keep asking Him for more direction without feeling weary.

Some people may receive the gift instantly with no effort but some must work on it to receive their gifts. You must have heard about this illustration so many times before about the rich father wants to give an inheritance to his son. Even though a rich father love his son so much, he would not give his son a car when his son is still 7 years old. His son is way too young to understand how to drive a car, to know the road regulation, and how to handle problems on the road. The father has to wait until his son fully understands and mature enough before he can receive the gift of car.

It is the same thing with our Father in heaven. The gifts from heaven sometimes cannot be given to us before we are fully mature in Christ. We need to work on ourselves, get ourselves ready for ‘solid food’ and not only settle with ‘baby food’ all the time. The gift itself is ready to be given to us at any time. But we need to make ourselves ready first.

I would like to share a story of my nephew. He has been hearing his mother speaking in tongue when she prayed. He also has heard my family, people at church speaking in tongue. He wanted to know what it was, how it works, and how powerful the tongue is in our prayer life. Once he found out how beneficial this gift of Holy Spirit was, he started to have desire to have this gift. Every time we prayed together as family, he listened and he tried himself to speak in tongue but was never successful because he didn’t know how to get it.

Until one night before he slept, he prayed to God and said to Him that he was longing to have this gift. He wanted to be able to be filled with Holy Spirit and to be able to speak in tongue. And after he prayed, he tried to open his mouth and started to say any word. After trying for several minutes, suddenly he could feel that the Holy Spirit took over the atmosphere. He started to speak words that he had not said before. This words were not even created in his own mind. The most beautiful thing was he could not stop it. He kept speaking in this new language for several minutes and he was so joyful.

The next day he shared this to us and we were so delighted to hear that our Father is a good God. He does listen to our prayer and He knows our heart desires. He works differently in each of us. What I learned is some of us may have certain gifts at the very young age, while others will only get other gifts when they are older. It depends on how bad you want to receive the gifts, how mature you are, how much you love Him and how much you are willing to give yourself for His Kingdom.

So if there is anyone of you are still wondering what your spiritual gifts are or you maybe longing to receive spiritual gifts from our Father, be bold in your mind to keep searching until you get it. It is a wonderful thing to experience His love for us through the gifts that He has entrusted us.

I hope this simple message will bring blessing to you.
