The Harvest Is Plentiful
36 When
he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed
and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to
send out workers into his harvest field.” – Matthew 9:36-38
Few days ago my good friend came to me and told me about her
dream. She said that she just had a dream of a young girl was sexually
assaulted and she woke up very sad. She then told me that she has been praying
for many sex trafficking victims all over the world so that the angels of God
will always protect them. Her heart is so close to these victims and she was
thinking what we should do to bring awareness to the people.
Another story, few years ago my husband, Rical, was prompted
in his heart for Domestic Violance (DV) Victims in our regions. He felt that
God wanted him to do something in this area of ministry. He did not know what
to do at first so he just started a prayer meeting with a group of people in
his local area. Soon after few months passed, God started to open up doors for
Rical to do more. He then met with few DV organisations in our regions and one
of them is a Christian organisation. We met the directors of this organisation
and cut the long story short, after several meetings we decided to help them.
They need a lot of volunteers to run their organisation.
Sadly there are not many people available or skillful enough to help these
victims. I wanted to help in more areas but considering my situation and
condition, I could only help them in some areas of administration and help to
raise fund for them. They need financial support to keep their organisation
going i.e. to pay for rent of the house where the victims live, paying the
house bills, food, and their personal needs.
If we want to open up our eyes and ears to our surrounding,
we will see and hear there are so many oppressions happening in our society. In
our day to day life, we see women being abused and attacked, girls being
assaulted, children who lost their parents, people who got really sick with no
finance to help their medical bills, and the list goes on.
Sometimes God put in our hearts for specific areas that He
wants us to help. But if you
feel until now you have not been prompted by God, why don’t you offer yourself
to God. Ask Him is there anything you can do for His kingdom? You never know He
might answer you.
It is very easy for us to live for our own life. I have been
doing that for as long as I live. However when I saw my pastors with big hearts
working on the women in her regions and the people in the city, and my husband with
his burden for unity and DV victims in our region, I started to think it is
always a good idea to at least give some of our time for others as well.
There is satisfaction and joy when we can give what we have
to others rather than keeping all to ourselves. We do not have to aim something
big, we can start with putting a smile into someone’s face.
Our church currently helping one family with single dad and
his four young children. They didn’t have their mother and raising four small
children is a real challenge for a single parent. So my church is organising
each mum at the church to provide once a week meal for this family. Every time
the mums from our church deliver the food to the family, they can see the smiles
from the children face. Their eyes are sparkling looking all those fancy food
every time the food arrives. Perhaps they never see this kind of food before. I
am so proud of the mums in our church who are so loving and so love doing this
ministry for this family.
For the DV organisation that I am currently helping, I try
to bring something for them on the big celebration i.e. Christmas and Easter.
On Christmas we packed some parcels for each of the ladies and on last Easter
we gave them Easter treat for each of them. I want to make sure they feel that
they are loved. Although this will not solve their current problems but I am
sure it brought smile to their face when they received them. We want to let
them know that they are not second class people instead they are valuable and worth
it.
As closing, if you can think of any areas that you are able
to help or anything that burden your heart, perhaps you can pray about it and
ask God how you can do it. I am sure God will answer our prayers and will open
up doors for you to see and hear more about what has been happening and bring
awareness to you.
I hope this blog will start stirring your heart and you will
receive an opportunity to be God’s worker.
