We Carry Our Own Grace
6 In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing
certain things well. – Romans 12:6 (NLT)
Few Sundays ago when we
were on our online church, I paid attention to David, our worship leader during
worship at that time. I was wondering why at such a young age, he was given so
much talents to sing and to play music instrument at the same time.
I grew up feeling pity on
myself not having any talent in music and I don’t even like to hear my own
voice. It is very low and out of tune. To make it simple, I am the worst singer
and I feel embarrassed if people hear my voice when I sing.
Another thing, when I look
at some of my friends who have talent in arts or design, I feel a bit envy
because not only I can’t draw, I don’t even have decent design taste at all.
When I just moved to my new house, I wanted to make my house pretty but I
didn’t know where to start. I felt sad of my hopelessness in basic design
skills. While some people can easily match this and that artwork and make the room
looks stunning, I will need to spend a lot of time to mix and match few items and
still not feeling good at my own choice.
It has been many years
since I became a Christian and I didn’t even bother to seek for my Gift given
by God. I was busy with work, family and kids. I just accepted this is how God
has created me with nothing special built inside me.
Surprisingly only after I
took time off from work recently, and after I decided to spare my time for the
work of the Kingdom, God started to open up my eyes how special I am. God
slowly showed me many good things and skills that I have. I might not have what
other people have, but they also don’t necessarily have what I have.
When I started to focus on
God’s work, doing this blog, helping organisation in my local community. I am
amazed myself that He has given me grace to do what He wants me to do. He
doesn’t only give me the skills, but He also gives me the heart to carry it.
He shows me that I have a
very good organisation skills, connecting people, managing time and money. With
limited resources I am given, I can achieve maximum result. He shows me that I
am very efficient and effective that I only need a small amount of time to
accomplish things excellently.
But the most important
thing is I love doing it. Even though sometimes it becomes a tough job, but I
felt like I want to keep doing it. I realised that God has given me grace to
carry this task. Others might find it draining or boring to what I am currently
doing but God knows me. He knows that I am capable to do it because His grace
stays in me.
So I would like to
encourage you, when you feel down or look down on yourself if you see other
people have what you don’t have, be assured that God has planted different
grace and skills in you. You just need to search for it. His grace will bring
your gift and talents to His kingdom and you will never get exhausted or going
weary. He will give you the heart to continue the journey because of the
passion He has planted inside you.
Don’t be jealous for
something that is not your portion. Be excellent in something that God has
given you. That way people will see that you are blessed and favoured in His
eyes.
Thank you for reading my
blog and hope you are encouraged.

I can't find any talent in me, but this is what I always do: bring out the care and compassion within me. This always moved me to put the extra 2-3 miles in everything I do. It is then that I was always amazed at how God multiplied the fruits of my labour.
