The Power of Agreement

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18: 19 (NIV)

When I had bible study with my church families, I was reminded the importance of agreement between 2 people, then the above verse came into my mind. If we really understand this principle as husband and wife, many things will be achieved in our marriage. And this is applicable to any partnership not limited to husband and wife only.

Sadly, sometimes we like to pursue our own thoughts or plans and force our husband or wife to agree to our ideas. The problem comes when both of us refuse to agree each other and persistently reject the other’s opinion. Hence agreement between husband and wife many times cannot happen.

I would like to share to you about what has just happened to us recently. Sometimes in April, Rical and I agreed to sell one of our properties. While I wanted to sell our property in Brisbane, he preferred the one in Sydney. Given his argument and reasons, I was still not convinced that it was a good idea to sell the one in Sydney. In the end I just followed his plan.

The first one month trying to sell this was already having some dramas. It was not a smooth sailing. Then lockdown came to Sydney, NSW and it made even harder for us to sell the property. I kept having thoughts in my mind if only he would have listened to me to sell the Brisbane one. There is no lockdown in Brisbane and everything would have gone smoothly.

Then one night I prayed to God and shared my ‘sorrow’ to Him, presenting all these problems that we had to endure. However to my surprise I received from God that it was because we were lacking the important part, the agreement between us. My heart was not supportive towards him. I should have agreed wholeheartedly for the blessing to come through. On that night Rical came to our room and feeling a bit down, shared his thoughts to me if he might have made a mistake to sell the Sydney one. I then told him, the problem is not which property to sell, but it was my heart that couldn’t agree with him.

I then told him let’s come to an agreement for this. We prayed and we agreed to sell this property in Sydney. Cut the long story short, we then sold this pretty quick after lockdown and was in a good price as well. I was very grateful that God has spoken to me in the times of trouble and advise me in His gentle voice what went wrong.

Another story is about the organization that I am part of, NewLeaf International. This is a Christian Domestic Violence Organisation in my local area. Sometimes end of September this year Karen, the director of this organization mentioned that the organization suffers financial challenges and at risk to close in a couple of month time. I refused this and asked Karen to agree with me that this organization will flourish and successful because this belongs to the Lord. So Karen and I came in agreement for prosperity of this organization with many safe houses we can provide for our clients. We prayed together and speak blessing upon this ministry.

Currently we have 1 safe house with 6 bedrooms for our clients. It has never been full since we opened this safe house but we are believing that we can make it full so we can open more houses in the future.

From the stories above I would like to encourage you to seek agreement with your husband or wife, with partner in ministry or with anyone that God has put you together. Instead of finding faults or try to win the argument, lets focus on the result you both want to achieve and lets work together to come in agreement.

Thank you for reading my blog and hope you are encouraged.
